Sample Speaking Part 1 – Topic: Fix things

Part 1

Fix things

1. Do you like to fix things?

To be honest, I’m not really a fan of fixing things. It’s not my strong suit, and whenever I attempt to fix something, it always seems to go downhill. I mean, I try my best, but somehow I manage to make things even worse. It’s frustrating, really. So, no, I can’t say I enjoy fixing things.

2. Who taught you how to fix things when you were young?

Oh, back in the day, my dad attempted to teach me a few things about fixing stuff. He gave it a shot with the TV remote control and even the light bulb. But yeah, he was always so disappointed with how clumsy I was that he ended up taking care of all the repairs himself. Can’t blame him, though. I was pretty hopeless.

3. How do people fix things?

Well, those who are naturally skilled with their hands, like my dad, can tackle repairs on their own. They have that knack for troubleshooting and getting things back in working order, sometimes with a little help from tutorial videos on YouTube. But for folks like me who aren’t so great at fixing things, we usually just call up a mechanic or someone else who knows what they’re doing.

4. What do you do when a thing is broken and cannot be fixed?

When something is broken beyond repair, my usual course of action is to bid it farewell and toss it in the trash. It’s a bit disheartening, but hey, sometimes there’s just no salvaging it. Now, if it happens to be made of plastic or wood or any other recyclable material, I make sure to do my part for the environment. I classify it as recyclable inorganic waste and make sure it gets into the appropriate recycling bin.
