The line graph illustrates the production of three types of fuel in the UK between 1981 and 2000.

In general, petroleum was the most produced kind of fuel during the whole period, but the production fluctuated significantly throughout the years. The figure for coal fell drastically after nearly 20 years, while natural gas production soared towards the end of the period.

Nearly 100 million tonnes of petroleum was manufactured in 1981. The figure later jumped to around 130 million tonnes and remained at this point until 1987, after which it plummeted to under 100 million tonnes and stayed at around this point until 1992. In the following years, the petroleum production soared back to over 130 million tonnes in 1995 but later fell again by 10 million tonnes in 2000.

Regarding the other two types of fuel, the production of coal stood at 80 million tonnes in 1981 and stayed the same until 1984 before plunging to around 50 million tonnes in 1985. This number later rose again to over 70 million tonnes but then gradually fell and stood at under 40 million tonnes in the final year. On the other hand, the figure for natural gas started at a much lower position (at only 40 million tonnes) and remained for 13 years (until 1994). After that, it rose dramatically and doubled after only six years (standing at around 82 million tonnes in 2000).
